Style:
In this system, there are 10 ‘hours’ in a day, 100 ‘minutes’ in an ‘hour’ and 100 ‘seconds’ in a ‘minute’. Thus, all three form one decimal number representing the fraction of the day elapsed.
A system of this kind was officially instituted in revolutionary France in 1793. Unlike the metric system which was also introduced during this period, decimal time proved to be very unpopular and its use was made non-mandatory in 1795.
